Book promotion
Book promotion and reviews.
Much of it a scam.
It has been
months since I posted a blog.
I’ve been
turning my novels into narrations and posting them
The
recording process doesn’t take too long --- about 45 minutes or an hour for
each chapter but the editing of those recordings can take three times that --- or a day.
These are the latest to be become narrations and I have promo codes for both if you're interested in a FREE audiobook.

Even though
I still have a novel to record ….
… I've
been writing a new story. I have three that have been bouncing around in my
head and I HAD to get back to writing.
I’ve suspended from that for a few moments today to talk
about book promotion, particularly programs offering promotion or reviews.
Why? Because it’s a vicious circle.
Yes, my stories could all bring in money but not without
sales.
How do you generate sales?
Two main ways, reviews and paid promotion.
Now, if you only have a dozen sales you don’t have any money
(Well, yes you have $12.00 or perhaps as much as $24.00 from the dozen sales)
--- which is not nothing but in the field of book promotion, it’s right
cheek-by-jowl with nothing.
You say I should contribute? Well, it’s obvious what I have
to contribute financially.
But I did contribute damn it, far more than any promoter has
or will and I produced something that none of them can.
Hundreds of hours in each of my stories, but the promoters
and reviewers will only contribute an hour or two --- probably more like ten
minutes --- if I take food out of my mouth to contribute $25. or $50 that
I don't have with the expectation of not seeing even a few pennies return on my
"investment."
If anyone, anywhere invests $50 in their “super doozy
whatsit" they will only do so with a guarantee of at least a $5 return (ie
$55.) and they would never do it again unless it led to AT LEAST A 20% RETURN
--- $60.
I received an email today for a review service where you can
get as many as 1000 reviews.
First, you have to buy these reviews and that should be
illegal --- it is fraud.
Giving someone a tip for a review AFTER THAT REVIEW HAS BEEN POSTED is an entirely different thing.

Yes, I keep asking people to leave a review, but they don’t.
Somehow, they can’t seem to understand how important reviews are. I’ve had at
least 2 dozen people tell me how much they enjoyed --- whatever story you want
to chose --- and perhaps a half dozen has posted a review on one of the two or more they’ve
read.
And every time I re-edit and re- publish, or re-cover and
re-publish, those reviews I thought I had? They’re gone.
But I’m getting off the trail I headed down and we’re going to get lost in the thick bush.
Let’s see if we can find the track again.
Expecting an independent author to have any money is the
height of stupidity --- the money came from some other source.
So, I went to this site to see what was offered (Online Book
Club)
For 25 reviews they want $250.00
?????????????? What the hell!
25 reviews will not generate 25 more book sales.
Even if they did, that would only mean less than $50.00 to
an independent author no matter where the price is set.
Even Michael Connolly, who probably sells a thousand copies
of everything he releases in the first day would have to be too dumb to write
in order to pay that kind of money for any amount of reviews.
So, sometime in the next 2 weeks my stories are going back
up to what they are worth. Yes, the "greats" in the genres that I
write are only great because they are popular, but what they are charging is
far less for several hours entertainment than one would pay for an hour and a half
at the movies. And often more informative than a movie.
No, there’s nothing wrong with a little learning tied to the
entertainment.
Yes, they’re names are more recognizable than mine and they
sell far more than I, even though, sad to say, they aren’t writing any new
ones. But none of it is any more entertaining, enlightening, easier to read or
a better story than what I offer. Sometime in the next two weeks my prices will
be up there just under theirs. Partly because prices are all going up (A big
jump in print pricing coming!) but mostly because that’s what they’re worth.
Take a look at Louis L'AMour, Elmer Kelton. Elmore Leonard
and William Johnson and my prices will be just under theirs.
Starting in mid January I'll also have some giveaways.
